Expansion at the GE scale is difficult to grasp for mere mortals. In January 2007, GE announced planned acquisitions to the tune of 15 billion USD. In 2006, GE had some 43 billion USD in revenue across the EMEA region which compares with just 3 billion USD in 1987. Obviously such vast expansion affects how you handle spend.
“In order to understand procurement in GE, you must realize that this function is an integrated part of business operations. As we are constantly growing and constantly re-thinking ourselves, ‘best cost’ and ‘best procedures’ are constantly challenged. Nothing is taken for granted. That’s why line business managers will always be on the lookout for high performance from procurement,” says Luc Broussaud, European sourcing leader at GE.
He leads a nine-man team out of EMEA corporate headquarters in Brussels, whose job it is to help change the ways businesses are doing sourcing and also to leverage GE’s spend across Europe. (long article, continued in pdf format)
